Rachel Smith studied at Royal Holloway, University of London and the Royal Northern College of Music. Concerto and recital performances have taken her across the UK from The Fairfield Halls and St John’s Smith Square, to Europe, Japan, Zimbabwe and the USA.
She appears regularly in the Brighton Festival, Edinburgh, City of London Festival and Canterbury Festivals, and freelances with symphony, chamber and opera orchestras, the West End Theatre and contemporary music ensembles.
Her playing has inspired new works from several British composers, some of which are included on her CD Summer was in August, which has featured on Classic FM. She has made numerous recordings and broadcasts for BBC Radio, TV and film, including BBC Radio 3’s Hear and Now and Radio 4’s Classic Serial. She also performs across the UK with the Hilser Trio (flute cello piano) and have been guest classical artists on The Saga Ruby cruise ship.
In 2012 The Trio released their first CD Aquarelles, of French Romantic music for flute cello piano, including music by Debussy, Fauré, Ravel, Gaubert, Damase and Duruflé. Rachel has appeared as soloist in concert across the UK, Europe and Japan, as well as recording solos on various CDs and commissioning and premiering works for flute and symphonic wind band.
Rachel is a well respected and sought after teacher, and has taught and given masterclasses and workshops across the UK and abroad, in addition to specialist woodwind examining for Trinity Guildhall examinations
